The V International Conference on Geotechnology, Mining and Rational Use of Natural Resources (GEO-2026) brings together researchers, geoscientists, mining and environmental engineers, mineral-processing specialists, and industry professionals working on the sustainable development of mineral resources. Hosted by Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies in Uzbekistan, the conference provides an international platform for presenting research and engineering solutions across the full mineral-resource lifecycle - from geological exploration and extraction to mineral processing, environmental protection, waste management, and sustainable resource use.

The conference focuses on a key challenge facing modern mineral-resource industries: increasing the efficiency of mineral extraction and processing while reducing environmental impacts, energy consumption, waste generation, and pressure on natural resources. The conference focuses on sustainable mining and geotechnology, resource-efficient mineral processing, recovery of valuable components from critical, secondary, and technogenic raw materials, geoecology, mine-water management, pollution prevention, environmental risk assessment, and low-impact mining technologies. These themes directly reflect the conference's multidisciplinary Earth and environmental sciences profile.

GEO 2026 also promotes the exchange of scientific knowledge between universities, research institutions, mining and metallurgical companies, and technology developers. The conference supports international cooperation, joint research, and the transfer of advanced methods and technologies for responsible mineral-resource development. Special attention is given to research relevant to Central Asia and other mineral-producing regions, where efficient resource utilization, environmental protection, water management, and modernization of mining and processing technologies are increasingly important.

The conference is supported by an international network of academic and industrial partners, including Akita University (Japan), China University of Mining and Technology (China), the International Union of Scientific and Engineering Public Associations (Russia), Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (Uzbekistan), Kazan Federal University (Russia), Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Chile), Satbayev University (Kazakhstan), Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), University of Miskolc (Hungary), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (Malaysia), and Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov (Kazakhstan).

The conference aims to support safer, cleaner, and more resource-efficient mineral development, strengthen international scientific cooperation and advance sustainable development in mining regions.
SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS
  • Geology, geophysics, geomechanics, and geotechnology, including rock-mass behaviour, drilling and blasting, open-pit mining, in-situ extraction, mine stability, and geological assessment of mineral deposits;
  • Mineral processing, beneficiation, hydrometallurgy, and geochemistry, with particular attention to uranium, precious metals, rare-earth and critical mineral resources;
  • Critical, secondary, and technogenic raw materials, including recovery of valuable components from mining and metallurgical wastes and the development of circular approaches to resource utilization;
  • Geoecology, water resources, and environmental protection, including mine-water management, groundwater protection, environmental monitoring, soil and water pollution, dust and emission control, and remediation technologies;
  • Environmental risk assessment and pollution prevention in mining, mineral processing, metallurgy, and associated industrial infrastructure;
  • Energy- and resource-efficient mining technologies, including low-carbon processes, energy-efficient mining equipment, and improved utilization of mineral and industrial resources;
  • Automation, intelligent monitoring, modelling, and process control as enabling technologies for safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible mining and mineral-processing operations.

History
The International Conference on Geotechnology, Mining and Rational Use of Natural Resources has been held regularly at the Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, Uzbekistan, since 2022. Over time, it has developed into a stable international scientific forum bringing together researchers, engineers, university faculty, and representatives of the mining and metallurgical industries. GEO-2026 is the fifth conference in the series, continuing the tradition of annual scientific exchange and cooperation. Each year, the conference attracts participants from more than 5–8 countries, with especially active involvement from Central Asian countries alongside partners from Europe and Asia. The scientific program covers geology, geotechnology, mining, mineral processing, environmental protection, energy efficiency, and the sustainable use of mineral resources. The conference also serves as a platform for building cooperation between universities, research institutes, and industrial organizations. The international character is reflected in its network of academic and industrial partners. Selected papers from previous conferences were published in E3S Web of Conferences (Volumes 417, 525). GEO 2026 continues this development with a stronger focus on sustainable mining, resource-efficient mineral processing, geoecology, environmental protection, and responsible mineral-resource development, while maintaining the conference’s practical orientation and strong regional relevance for Central Asia.
